the genius of Tropic of cancer as i carefully savor my passage through this marvelous mind is that he was writing a tone poem, a versical songline in diary form of his trip through france. Heinlein was a great story teller, but he spun up fanciful Earthlike worlds. Miller is telling us about France of the late thirties.
I observe his ideations with gratitude! he is his own worst critic, an admirer of women, a Semitophie! This is brightly te4lling when we consider the historical context of Tropic of cancer.
He mentions The Book that he and Moldorf are going to write, after which all other boks will refer to it as a template: I deduce that Tropic of Cancer is that book. as a writer who has been censored by anarchist presses for my hard-won opinions i feel like I am on the right track; when collectivists stoop to GOP style tactics of censorship I merely need to sharpen the sword of subtlety and I have suceeded in spite of them. And all the while i feel Miller's benevolent spiritual presence at my shoulder as I slowly tear his book to yellowed pieces. In short, A must read!
