Actually, I'm rather nervous. With talk of racial profiling, deportation, closing the borders, branding anyone a coward who voices the least bit of misgiving in regards to America's course of action, and generally erasing everything that makes America the country (not the culture) great, I fear that people are only going to become more shallow, vapid, and conservative.
Most people seem to see this as a direct attack on their SUVs and cell phones, and thus, ideologically, are placing more emphasis on those things rather than upon life itself.
If you're asking whether or not people will say to themselves, "Life is too short; why am I fiddling around with all of this pointless nonsense and these gadgets ad infinitum when I could be killed tomorrow without warning?" Well, I doubt it. I think the opposite is what is approaching. While listening to the radio I heard one man proudly exclaim, "You're either a patriot or a traitor in this." What will happen to those people who are narrowly defined to be traitors? Will they be found guilty of simply wanting living life? I wouldn't be surprised to see McCarthy stomping unbridled through the courts any day now.
