: How about the contents of MAX AND THE WHITE PHAGOCYTES?
Hi!
The original American editions of "Max and the White Phagocytes, "Remember to Remember" and "Sunday After the War" are hard to obtain probably because New Directions assume that a good Henry Miller fan will find the content of these books in other collections. This is my assumption, but it could be that these guys in New York are simply full of..(well, you know what!)... It's easier nowadays to get a book by Miller in London and Paris than in the good old U.S. of A.! In Montreal, Henry's books translated in French can be found everywhere. But if you're looking for "The Books in my Life" or "Black Spring" in English, you'll end up in a no-no lane!: "Oh! we are so sorry... it's not available...etc." This applies to "Max". So, here's the table of contents of that book in French, which I proudly possess (bought here in Montreal, on Saint-Catherine Street):
Max
Premier amour
Via Dieppe-Newhaven
Benno, le sauvage de Borneo
L'ancien combattant alcoolique au crane en planche 'a lessive
Mademoiselle Claude
Reunion 'a Brooklyn
En guise de finale
P.S. The translator (Georges Belmont)
eliminated the adjective "White". The cover of that French edition is somewhat amazing. I've downloaded it "for your eyes only"
Take care!
