: Thanks.
Hi!
Although I've never found a copy of this book, here's the information I got: "...1944 proved to be a very lean year for Miller financially. This in spite of the fact that many of his books were now in print: New Directions brought out the collection "Sunday After the War", which included outtakes from "The Air-Conditioned Nightmare" and fragments from "The Rosy Crucifixion" as well as essays on Nin and Lawrence. It also contains a fine account of his reunion with his family in Brooklyn in 1940 that reveals the compassion he felt for his father and his disgust with himself for his inability to help materially in some way.", Mary V. Dearborn, "The Happiest Man Alive", pp. 234-235. Robert Ferguson ("Henry Miller, A Life") adds: "The excerpts from "Sexus", that appeared in the 1944 collection "Sunday After the War" augured well, but when he (Durrell) read the full-length work he put their friendship at risk by telling Miller that his book was "disgracefully bad" and that it was liable to ruin his reputation unless he withdrew it immediately and revised it." ", p. 307. Speaking of Durrell, you can find "Reunion in Brooklyn" in "The Henry Miller Reader", the famous anthology he edited in 1959, (pp. 95-133).
Amuse-toi bien!
