We do not talk - we bludgeon one another with facts and theories gleaned from cursory readings of newspapers, magazines and digests.

The Library’s Mafia-like grip over your November tightens: Five amazing events in the upcoming month!

Someone get this self-loathing SOB some succulent pig loin!

“Just when I think I’m out…they keep PULLING ME BACK IN!”

Yup, it’s a memorable quote from a not-so-memorable movie (Which’d be Godfather III.  Casting Sophia Coppola was a mistake.  She looked like a bewildered accountant the whole time.  Coppola only made it because he was flat broke at the time, which is amazing when you think about it.)

The quote is about how Michael Corleone can’t escape the Mob, and at the time of this writing, we are sympathetic with his conundrum as we scan our November calendar to see that – Burro polpette mia e mi chiamano il papa!!! – there are still more Library-related events in the hopper.

This whole “the summer is ending and the fun will soon stop” illusion was precisely that – an illusion.

(Staring into space and exclaiming to no one in particular) “Just when we think we’re out….they keep PULLING US BACK IN!!!”

So why not take out a pen and write-in these upcoming events in your datebook?  Because we all know that even though you have an ipad or a Blackberry or whatever, you also have a physical datebook – Keely does!! – because it’s an easier and more intuitive organizational tool no mater how much Steve Jobs’ vindictive ghost tries to brainwash you otherwise.  Suckazzzz!!

* Wednesday, November 1st – “Big Sur Scary Shorts” at the Independent Marketplace in Sand City.  We blogged about this earlier today.  It’ll be fun.  Trust us.

* Friday – November 2nd – 6 pm – W.I.P.O. (Whenever I pass out): The Big Sur Food and Wine Festival’s “Wine and Swine” event and after party at the Library!

Compared to Michael, Carolyn has a more balanced professional life.

For those not in the know, Nov. 2-4 will be one of the more fun weekends of the year – it’s the Big Sur Food and Wine Festival!  There are tons of events planned, which you can see here, including two at the Library.   Oh, and all proceeds go to local non-profits and charities!

This first one is ridiculous.  “Delectable dishes prepared by five chefs, using hogs from the 100% sustainable farms of Niman Ranch, all matched to the wines of ten to fifteen wineries for your Friday night pleasure!”  Tickets are $90, which you can get here.

Then, one the same night, but starting at 8:30 pm (if you want to skip the “Wine and Swine”) it’s live music by Songs Hotbox Harry Taught Us, plus the dazzling BiG SuRCuS and classic pop, jazz and country singer  Carolyn Sills.   So if you come at 8:30, it’s only $20.  Tickets here.

* Saturday, November 3rd – 6:30 onwards ~ Dinner with Friends at the Henry Miller Library ~ Only 10 Tickets Left!

We invite you to join us and our special winemaker friends as we host a special Paulée-style dinner at the Henry Miller Library. Enjoy the jazz manouche of Beso Negro, outstanding food, truly unique and fun wines to share from various cellars and collections, and we invite you to bring something you are proud of, or wish to share. And, the After Party in all its glory is included.  Tickets, which are $155, can be purchased. here.

* Saturday, November 3rd – 8:30 pm – onwards – After Party! at the Henry Miller Library

More wild music, wild dancing, wild everything! We’re closing out our fourth year of the Festival with the gypsy swing gone darker, faster, more danceable, more blues, more Gypsy and the talents of Beso Negro will blow the roof off the tent! You’ll also be mesmerized by the fiery dancing of BiG SuRCuS,  our wonderful band of merrymakers, literally lighting up the night!

And for those who wish to really get down, we’ll follow all that with DJ Hanif’s musical mixology of eclectic world beats while we play under the cathedral of the redwoods at the Henry Miller Library! Thank you to Firestone Walker Brewing Company for sponsoring a night fantastique!  $20; tickets here.

* Friday Nov. 30 – Dec 2nd: the Big Sur Writing Workshop for Children to YA Fiction to be held in Big Sur at the Big Sur Lodge.  Registration deadline is November 2nd.

Happy writers

This is important, because – ahem -  the Big Sur Writing Workshop is the most unique and rewarding children and young adult workshop in the the country.

No matter how you define success, be it securing a publishing deal, improving your manuscript, or networking with the best in the industry, all participants walk away electrified.  It will sell out – so act now and register here: http://bigsurwriting.wordpress.com/register-2/register/

So….that’ll do for now, which brings us to the good news and the bad news.

The good news is that while we’ve sucked you back into our Mafia-like circle, we won’t be placing horse heads in your bed or forcing you to carjack a truck full of plasma tv’s anytime soon (though my contact tells me there’s a big shipment coming into Port Richmond on Monday.)

The bad news is that, well, we did get ourselves in a little…shall we say…a little jam.

Seems like we owe money to this guy – a good guy, good family – for this job.  Long story.  One thing led to another.  You don’t want to hear it.   I can ‘splain it to you in person.  But we need you to meet us outside the women’s bathroom at the Bakery at 2 am.  Look for the — oh, I gotta run.  There’s a white van in the parking lot.  Could be Feds….talk later….ciao…..
