Here the redwood made its last stand. At dawn its majesty is almost painful to behold.

That same prehistoric look. The look of always.

Nature smiling at herself in the mirror of eternity.

p. 7. Big Sur And The Oranges Of Hieronymus Bosch

We welcome all kinds of parties!

The Library is now fully booked for 2012.

We are open for reservations for 2013.

We often use the Library for weddings, concerts, parties, etc.

This place is beautiful, it has a spirit all its own. Walking in for the first time, you easily feel transported, away from where you came and into, what many have said is, the "jewel" of the coast. For some pictures click here .

We've had parties ranging from 100 down to small parties of 5 - 10 people. We've had parties with several bands, grand piano, string quartet, movies, flower walks, herbal walks, sit down dinner, open bar, lights etc.. Your imagination is the only limitation as far as what you can do here.

Price etc. please download our rental contract here (pdf).

Dancing and amplified music (until 11 PM) is welcome. You can stay later but the volume needs to be lowered after 11. (on Sundays - Thursdays @ 10 PM).

Service: The Library will open 9 am for set-up. A minimum of one Library staff person will be available to help during the day. Prior to the event the Library grounds will get special attention. Two bathrooms are available.

Parking will have to be arranged using a shuttle should the party be 150 people or more, otherwise parking is ample right adjacent to the Library.

Insurance: The Library has public liability insurance.

The sound system will be yours to use - including CD player, microphones for speakers etc. It's a very high quality system and it'll fill the space beautifully.

If you like to have a movie or slideshow shown during your party we have all we need for that - a large screen and a state of the art projector - we will charge $ 250.00 extra for that service. We highly recommend it - perhaps you have someone in your family of friends who'd like to make a DVD for the event - we have seen some great ones and it is awesome to see on a large screen with good sound under the redwoods!

A couple of important advantages of the Library.

First: We rarely have thick fog.
Second: We "never" have windy conditions. (maybe two days out of the year, and even then not usually very strong - not true about the beach and nearer the coast).

If you decide to do your wedding in Big Sur make sure you get reservations in Hotels/Motels/Campgrounds well in advance: You don't want your guests to have to drive to Monterey after your party! The State Park Lodge, the biggest, and I think most convenient, especially for families, place for your guests to stay, is about 4 miles north of here.
.
We gladly help with suggestions for catering, flowers, music, audio/visual (movies, DVD, VHS, large screen) etc. so please let us know.

If you want a good, fun, wedding band check out "Songs That Hotbox Harry Taught Us."

E-mail your questions here.

Hope you'll come to the Henry Miller Library for your wedding or party.

"I am just having a good time.

And, I think this is a very important part of life–that people learn how to play, and that they make life a game, rather than a struggle for goals,

don't you know."
