Mayan calendar, fyi
The Mayans may be known for their doomsday visions, fierce human sacrifices, and tasty cuisine, but have they ever recorded an album as sinister and foreboding as “Julius Caesar?”
Don’t think so.
Nor have they cornered the market on hellfire existential dread.
In fact, they’re quickly losing market share (if I had time to make an illustrative pie graph, I would) to one Bill Callahan, aka Smog, who will be performing this Friday at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, which not coincidentally will be one of the more interesting places to witness the end of the world come Dec. 2012.
His performance will be followed by an exclusive screening of his tour film, Apocalypse, which features select footage from a certain “Library” in Central California that most folks confuse for a lending library or just come in to use the bathroom.
It will be totally awesome and rare type of performance!
