Improv comedy night and music – July 9th at the Henry Miller Library!

Everyone remembers their first time.

Mine was when I was a freshman at college.

My friends said there was this cool get together at this downtown coffeeshop, the Artful Dodger.  New to town, eager to explore my surroundings – and my emotions – I somewhat nervously tagged along.

I walked in, and sat among two dozen or so people.  Everyone seemed a little nervous too.  Perhaps it was their first time as well?

But soon our inhibitions fell away.  Caffeine was flowing, the room was sweltering, and I surrendered to the moment without a hint of shame or guilt.

Soon I, along with everyone else, was clutching our abdomens in glorious and transcendent agony.

It was, of course, my first improv comedy experience.

More than anything, I was shocked by how, like, funny they were. How’d they do it?  Well, come join me as I reminisce on my “first time” this July 9th, when the Henry Miller Library is hosting improv comedy night!!

Da comedy is provided by David Razowsky, alumni of the world-famous Second City troupe (check him out musing below), along with Eric Hunicutt. And live music will be provided by Chicago’s Al Rose!

Saturday July 9th.  7:30 pm.  $15 in advance here.   $20 at the door.

And better yet, these fine gents are hosting an improv comedy workshop!  Because after all, like a drunken middle-aged clown or a jazz pianist, there was a method to the madness behind improv.  An underlying thought process.  An architecture of the mind, even.

So you can also sign up for the workshop.  Here.

Hope we’re not confusing you.

To recap: Improv comedy night @ the Henry Miller Library – July 9th!
