My bro Ed says “He’s a Rebel” is the best rock song ever. I think he’s right. Mostly. Guess I’d put “Long Tall Sally” up there too (predictable, I know.)
Either way,”Rebel,” penned by one Mr. Gene Pitney, perfectly encapsulates Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” vibe (although not as well as some Righteous Brothers tunes) and, more applicably, has the Wrecking Crew playing on it!
The same Wrecking Crew honored in a film by the same name, that’ll be showing here, at the Henry Miller Library, on May 27th.
So. “He’s a Rebel.” Greatest rock song ever? No! “Jumpin’ Jack Flash!”
