Come to the Museum of Monterey tonight for shorts films and a more sensible Trinity – courtesy of the Henry Miller Library!

Hey townies! The Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series comes to the @ Museum of Monterey tonight!

That’s 5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey, CA 93940  (831) 372-2608

And tonight is super-special: we’ll be hosting a director, producer, AND actor from the featured films. A holy trinity of independent cinema.  Specifically:

  • Jared Varava, Director of Tumbleweed (Holy Spirit)
  • Lo Dagerman, Producer of Our Need for Consolation (Son)
  • Justin and Jessica Crum, Actors in Douglas (Father)
[The assignment of each 1/3 of the Godhead was based on alphabetical order.  Even still, I think it's nonetheless more understandable than the more common Trinity (Isn't it polytheism?  Was there always a Son with a Father?  Is that the Holy Spirit I feel six-Sierra Nevadas deep at Fernwood?)]

Tickets $10; $5 for museum members. Click the link!  http://bigsurshortsaugust1.eventbrite.com/

Out-Mayan the Mayans this Friday at the Library: Bill Callahan + exclusive screening of his tour film "Apocalypse" !

Mayan calendar, fyi

The Mayans may be known for their doomsday visions, fierce human sacrifices, and tasty cuisine, but have they ever recorded an album as sinister and foreboding as “Julius Caesar?”

Don’t think so.

Nor have they cornered the market on hellfire existential dread.

In fact, they’re quickly losing market share (if I had time to make an illustrative pie graph, I would) to one Bill Callahan, aka Smog, who will be performing this Friday at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, which not coincidentally will be one of the more interesting places to witness the end of the world come Dec. 2012.Photo-full

His performance will be followed by an exclusive screening of his tour film, Apocalypse, which features select footage from a certain “Library” in Central California that most folks confuse for a lending library or just come in to use the bathroom.

It will be totally awesome and rare type of performance!
